U.S. ESTA

Apply for United States ESTA
Important Information
- All travelers from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries, including minors, must obtain an ESTA before traveling to the United States by air or sea. U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and holders of valid U.S. visas do not require an ESTA.
- Most applications are approved within minutes, but some may take up to 72 hours. We recommend applying at least 72 hours before your intended travel date.
- The ESTA is an electronic travel authorization required for visa-exempt travelers from eligible countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and most EU nations. It permits stays of up to 90 days for tourism, business, or transit purposes. The ESTA is valid for 2 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

Who Needs to Apply for an ESTA?
If you’re a citizen of a Visa Waiver Program country and planning to travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days for tourism, business, or transit, you need an approved ESTA before departure.
This requirement does not apply to U.S. citizens or travelers holding a valid U.S. visa.

How Long is the ESTA Valid?
Your ESTA remains valid for up to 2 years from the date of approval or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. You may use it for multiple trips during that period.
Can I Work or Study in the U.S. with an ESTA?
No. The ESTA is only valid for short-term tourism, business meetings, or transit. It does not authorize employment, paid work, or long-term study programs.
What if My ESTA Application Is Denied?
If your ESTA request is denied, you must apply for a B-1/B-2 visitor visa through a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. You will be informed of the reason for the refusal.

Frequently asked questions
No, travelers who already have a valid U.S. visa do not need to apply for an ESTA.
Yes, all travelers, including infants and children, must have their own approved ESTA. Each ESTA is electronically linked to an individual passport, so children cannot be included under a parent’s application. Parents or legal guardians can complete the ESTA application on behalf of the child.
Yes, an approved ESTA is required even if you are only transiting through the United States.
All travelers passing through the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program must have a valid ESTA, regardless of whether they are entering the country for tourism, business, or simply connecting to another destination.
You can still use your approved ESTA, even if your travel plans change.
As long as your ESTA is valid and your passport details remain the same, you do not need to apply for a new ESTA. You can update certain optional information, such as your U.S. point of contact or address, but it is not required for travel.
Absolutely. The U.S. ESTA is valid for several trips over a two-year period—or until your passport expires.
If you lose the passport linked to your approved ESTA, you must apply for a new ESTA using your new passport.
ESTA authorizations are electronically tied to the passport number used during the application. A lost, stolen, or replaced passport invalidates the previous ESTA, and a new application is required with the updated passport details.
